McElrea Consulting is a professional consulting firm that specialises in community and stakeholder engagement, strategy development, feasibility studies, and project management.


At the heart of our approach is community and stakeholder engagement, which serves as the foundation for our strategy and plan development. We utilise a range of techniques and tools, including Investment Logic Mapping, cafe-style workshops, and more recently, Strategic Doing, to facilitate dialogue and collaboration among diverse stakeholders.

We have extensive experience in building community strategies and plans from the ground up and are very passionate about community ownership.


Our team has a proven track record of delivering successful projects for clients across a range of industries and sectors, including non-profit and philanthropic organisations.


We recognise the importance of gathering insights directly from stakeholders and have developed a flexible approach that can be tailored to suit each project’s unique requirements.


We are based in Wānaka and have clients based in Otago, Southland, and Canterbury. We pride ourselves on our ability to provide practical, evidence-based solutions that deliver tangible outcomes and benefits for our clients.

REBECCA MCELREA

Founder and Principal

Rebecca has a Bachelor of Arts majoring in both Politics and History. Rebecca has held both Community and Economic Development Management positions within local government and has many skills ranging from facilitation, to research and analysis, developing regional and local strategies through to project managing.

KENT MCELREA

Business Manager

Kent has a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in both Marketing and Management. He has had over 20 years experience in the tourism industry in Queenstown owning and operating one of Queenstown’s most successful hostels. Kent has many skills ranging from excellent business acumen and foresight, through to engagement, research and analysis and project management.

MEL CUSENS

Strategy and Policy Advisor

Melanie has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Degree in Human Resources Management and Industrial Psychology. She has gained her experience by working for, or alongside private businesses, NPO’s and NGO’s; such as, the United Nations World Food Program, Helen Keller International and Life Without Barriers. Her skills include the ability to interpret and analyse data, compile and prepare plans and develop policies and strategies.

SARAH JAMIESON

Project Manager

Sarah is an experienced facilitator and project manager. Having worked in the agriculture sector, Sarah has developed strong skills around engaging and connecting land and business owners with their communities, industry experts, and resources in a way that encourages ongoing communication and collaborative outcomes that are mutually beneficial.  

Sarah is a ‘Big Picture’ thinker and problem solver, and sits on two separate governance boards, but also has excellent attention to detail, which speaks to her project management style.  

With her open communication and ‘lets get it done’ attitude, Sarah is an exciting addition to our small team
